In today’s Making Room I wrote about the importance of engaging with Christmas music in a deep way, while the CSLI devotional quoted Isaiah 40.
When I read over Isaiah 40 the phrase “Behold your God!” stood out to me. It follows the familiar verse 8 which says “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” In short, all is temporary, all is passing away, but behold our God is mighty and yet gentle. His Word is eternal. The “nations are nothing before him.”
It reminded me of a song that is something of a new favorite of mine. I have it taped inside my Bible, and although it is not a Christmas song it does have the phrase “come let us adore him” so it counts in my book.
I recommend giving it a listen here.
Behold Our God
Who has held the oceans in his hands?
Who has numbered every grain of sand?
Kings and nations tremble at his voice
All creation rises to rejoiceBehold our God, seated on his throne
Come, let us adore him
Behold our king, nothing can compare
Come, let us adore himWho has given counsel to the Lord?
Who can question any of his words?
Who can teach, the one who knows all things?
Who can fathom all his wondrous deeds?Behold our God, seated on his throne
Come, let us adore him
Behold our king, nothing can compare
Come, let us adore himWho has felt the nails upon his hands?
Bearing all the guilt of sinful man
God eternal, humbled to the grave
Jesus, Savior, risen now to reignBehold our God, seated on his throne
Come, let us adore him
Behold our king, nothing can compare
Come, let us adore him
I hope the more you ponder the sacrifice of Jesus, marked first by His coming to earth, the more you are compelled to come and adore Him.
Digging Deeper:
Who has given counsel to the Lord?
Who can compare to our Lord?
I love that song and have been doing the CSLI devotions along with you 😇
