Advent December 14th
In Making Room I wrote about how we need to be ambassadors for Christ. The CSLI devotional focused on God’s glory. The author said: “Glory is the captivating, blazing beauty and brilliant, grand weight of God’s majesty and fame. It is the lustrous splendor of His powerful Presence. To experience God’s glory is to proclaim His praise.”
I wonder if we can truly be effective ambassadors without grappling with God’s glory? If you have experienced something truly wonderful, whether it be a meal or a scenic hike, there is a compulsion and joy in sharing your experience. Shouldn’t that be how it is to live as a Christian? How can we help from sharing what it is like to know the living God? To taste the meaning and direction and hope He gives? To get the slightest glimpse of His glory is to want those you care about to experience the same.
And yet, inexplicably, sometimes I find myself unwilling to share what I truly believe. At root I don’t think I want to feel the rejection of unbelievers. The Creator and Sustainer of the Universe knows me and loves me unconditionally. Why do I care what anyone else thinks? And yet if I’m honest I do care. I shouldn’t but often I do.
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5: 6-8 (NIV)
Digging Deeper:
If Christ died for you, and He did, how can you demonstrate your love and appreciation for Him and His sacrifice?
Do you feel like you are doing a good job in life of proclaiming God’s praise? If not, how can you do better?
