Advent December 13
In Making Room I wrote about the meaning of glory and how we sometimes use the word without really contemplating what it means. At least I do that. I do that with a fair number of biblical concepts. It’s heartbreaking when I do take the time to think more deeply and realize how casual and irreverent I can be about my faith.
Today’s CSLI devotional was authored by my friend Tom Tarrants and he wrote: “In this season of Advent, let us seek to please the Father by making time to meditate upon these holy and heavenly realities and ask Him to open our eyes to see anew and our hearts to respond afresh to His grace and love to us in Jesus His Son, the Prince of Peace. As we do so, we will find our hearts filled with the peace that only He can give—peace with God, peace with ourselves, and peace with others.”
A thousand amens to that! In truth I have spent more time in the last few weeks looking for a car for my son than I have meditating on Scripture. I need to change that today.
These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you like down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Deuteronomy 6: 6-8 (NIV).
