In Making Room I quoted C.S. Lewis who said, “it seems to me that one can hardly say anything either bad enough or good enough about life.” The CSLI devotional speaks to the wonder of the incarnation.
These themes can be tied together in that our glimpses into God’s glory are what makes life feel so incredible. Our need for the miracle of the incarnation is what makes life so very hard. Do you think that is an oversimplification? Do you have joys in this world that do not reflect God’s ultimate story and glory? Do you have sorrows that do not stem from a need for the incarnation?
How about the birth of a child? The wonder of that tiny hand, the magic of that first smile, the contentment of a milk-drunk stupor. God knit the baby together. The miracle of birth is His glory.
How about when that child gets gravely ill? Is that not a reflection of a fallen world? Death and decay are the wages of sin. Death and decay point to the need for the incarnation. What else could begin to redeem all that has been marred by the fall?
Sometimes I find the simplest explanations in life the most satisfying. Perhaps it is because we are called to have childlike faith. Consider these words of Jesus:
Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Digging Deeper:
Where do you most need to have childlike faith in this season of your life?
Do you have a hard time envisioning the greatest in heaven as humble and childlike? If so, why do you?
Love the way you unpack these events. There are miracles every day if we have eyes to see 😇
